Bridgemen and Stewart attend Boys State

Michigan DeMolay had two of our young men attend “Boys State” this year.

“Boys State” is a Leadership & Political science program that is run by the American Legion.

The program is for young men that are still in high school and they must be between there junior & senior year (it is held in the summer after school is out).

The program is for a week and was held at Northwood University in Midland Michigan this year.

The young men live in the University dorms and get a small taste of what college life is like.

This year there were two hundred and seventy-one young men enrolled in the program.

Much of the program is related to how our political system works and the young men run for office (Governor, legislator, mayor, city council, judge, etc.) and then they introduce bills and debate the merits of the bill. They also do mock trials; one of the American Legion councilors will be accused of something and is put on trial. The young men determine guilt or innocence and set the punishment, if any.

Our young men were Brandon Stewart of Walt Disney Chapter; who was elected to the City Council and Ben Bridgemen of Roseville Chapter; who was elected Supreme Court clerk.

This is an outstanding program and we hope that Michigan DeMolay will continue to partner with the American Legion to sponsor some of our young men.
